CIENCIA Y TECNOLOGÍA MARCAN LA CULTURA ACTUAL

¿Puede alguien negar que estamos viviendo en una sociedad totalmente permeada por la tecnología y la ciencia?

Piénsese acerca de la revolución de conceptos y conocimiento de nuestros planetas vecinos y sobre los exoplanetas. Piénsese acerca de cuánto conocimiento y experiencia estamos adquiriendo permanentemente teniendo Astronautas viviendo en el Espacio por largos períodos de tiempo.

Piénsese en el impacto en la vida cotidiana hecho por electrodomésticos y adminículos que están haciendo cada vez más fácil limpiar una casa, cocinar, lavar y secar ropa, etc.

Piénsese en vehículos que funcionan a electricidad y no a combustibles fósiles, que tienen frenos automáticos y que pueden estacionar también automáticamente. Y en los que están viniendo, que nos permitirán predeterminar nuestro destino y nos llevarán al mismo mientras leemos un diario, vemos una película, o usamos nuestro teléfono celular para tratar con amigos.

El mundo está a nuestras manos en un pequeño adminículo inteligente, podemos leer libros, entrar en todo el conocimiento desarrollado por investigaciones de una universidad, explorar

Ideas, pensamientos filosóficos, preocupaciones religiosas, ética y estética, teatro y películas en general, movimientos políticos y sociales, etc.

Los avances en medicina son fantásticos, el progreso en nanotecnología es sorprendente, el trabajo sobre futuras computadoras basadas en la aplicación de la física cuántica es prometedor, y la robótica ya está sustituyendo gran cantidad de trabajo físico y creando seres artificiales que tienen aspecto humano y pueden hacer muchas cosas como humanos.

Todo esto es parte de nuestra vida diaria, le da forma y sustancia a la misma.

Estamos viviendo esta realidad con directas consecuencias sobre lo que imaginamos, pensamos, decidimos, proyectamos y evolucionamos. Con un impacto directo sobre las artes, la música, la literatura y las muchas manifestaciones de lo que llamamos cultura.

Pero la cultura actual está formada, determinada y en muchas maneras incrustada en los grandes pasos permanentemente dados por la ciencia y la tecnología.

Por lo tanto, cuando hay personas que restringen su visión de lo qué es cultura a literatura, teatro, escultura, pintura, música, danza, películas; muy francamente están trabajando con conceptos de comienzos del siglo XX.

Desde aquí apelo a las personas que están haciendo programas de TV y radio a que urgentemente actualicen su concepto acerca de lo qué es cultura hoy, de otra manera arriesgan llegar a ser obsoletos o hacer su trabajo apenas para un cada vez más pequeño círculo de seguidores.

Existe la necesidad de comprender que hay una co-dependencia,  co-influencia y co-producción entre ciencia, tecnología y sociedad entre sí y una relación sinergística de ellas con lo que llamamos cultura.

 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MARK THE CURRENT CULTURE

Can anyone deny that we are living in a society totally permeated by technology and science?

Think about the revolution of concepts and knowledge of our neighbor planets and about the exoplanets. Think about how much knowledge and experience we are permanently acquiring having Astronauts living in Space for long periods of time.

Think about the impact in domestic life done by appliances and gadgets that are making every time easier to clean a house, to cook, to wash and dry clothes, etc. 

Think about vehicles that run on electricity and not on fossil fuels, that have automatic breaks and can park also automatically. And those that are coming that will allow us to predetermine our destination and they will drive us to it while we read a newspaper, see a movie, or use our cell phone to deal with friends.

The world is at our hands in a small intelligent gadget, we can read books, enter in all the knowledge developed by investigations of a university, explore ideas, philosophical thoughts, religious concerns, ethics and aesthetics, theatre, movies and arts in general, politics and social movements, etc.

The advances in medicine are fantastic, the progress in nanotechnology is surprising, the work on future computers based on the application of quantum physics is promising, and robotics is already substituting a lot of physical work and creating artificial beings that have a human aspect and could do many things like humans. 

All of this is part of our daily life, shapes it and gives substance to it.

We are living this reality with direct consequences in what we imagine, think, decide, project, and evolve. With a direct impact on arts, music literature and the many manifestations of what we call culture.

But today culture is shaped, determined in many ways and embedded in the great steps permanently done by science and technology.

Therefore, when there are people that restrict their vision of what is the culture to literature, theatre, sculpture, painting, music, dance, movies, quite frankly they are working with concepts of the beginning of the 20^th Century.

From here, I appeal to people doing TV or radio programs to urgently update their concept about what is culture today, otherwise they risk to become obsolete or to do their work for just an every time smaller circle of followers.

There is a need to understand that there is a co-dependence, co-influence and co-production of science, technology, and society upon the other and a synergistic relationship of them with what we call culture.
