COMPARTIENDO : LA DISCRIMINACIÓN INACEPTABLE - THE UNACCEPTABLE DISCRIMINATION

Como nunca antes, parece que cada vez más las sociedades en todo el mundo se han vuelto sensibles a la discriminación.

En algunos países, la población negra aún está luchando por sus derechos y un tratamiento justo.

Homosexuales reclaman aún ruidosamente su lugar en la sociedad, demandando ser tratados igual que cualquier otra persona.

Mujeres organizadas están demandando crecientemente sus derechos a ser pagas igual que los hombres por un mismo trabajo, que su maternidad sea considerada, y que sus vidas sean respetadas, denunciando que algunas de ellas sufren violencia por sus esposos o parejas, al punto del homicidio.

Todas estas discriminaciones son públicamente conocidas porque las personas que las sufren están organizadas, envían mensajes a sus legisladores, protestan y marchan por sus derechos.

Pero hay una discriminación silenciosa. Una que pasa inadvertidamente pero que afecta a millones de personas en cada país. Es la discriminación por la edad.

Días pasados estaba leyendo algunos avisos ofreciendo trabajo, y me dí cuenta que había un límite específicamente establecido: 40 años.

En otras palabras, es como decir públicamente: si una persona quiere trabajar pero es mayor de 40años, no puede más realizar ninguna actividad remunerada, no importa su capacidad, inteligencia, deseo de trabajar, antecedentes o experiencia.

En términos muy crudos esto significa condenar a una mujer o un hombre de 47 o 52 años a una muy difícil, triste y pobre vida. Esto es hacer sentir a las personas que ya han agotado su derecho a vivir con dignidad en medio de la sociedad, que nadie más se preocupa de ellas y que son dejadas a sus propias posibilidades hasta que mueran.

Esta es una muy inhumana y triste realidad que tiene que ser encarada inmediatamente, y que justificadamente tiene que desarrollarse en movimientos para protestar, en actos públicos para crear conciencia, en peticiones a los legisladores, y el triunfo será el día que se apruebe una ley estableciendo que la discriminación por edad no es aceptable para quienes buscan tabajo.

Un trato justo de estas personas mirará a su educación, capacidades, experiencia, antecedentes, estilo de vida, etc. para determinar qué tipo de tarea pueden cumplir eficientemente.

Estoy definitivamente en contra de la discriminación por edad porque es inhumana.

In some countries, the black population is still fighting for its rights and a fair treatment.

Homosexuals reclaim even noisily their place in society, demanding to be treated equally than any other people.

Organized women are increasingly demanding their rights to be paid equally than men for the same job done, that their maternity is considered, and that their lives be respected denouncing that some of them suffer violence by their husbands or partners, to the point of homicide.

All these discriminations are publicly known because the people who suffer from them are organized, they sent messages to legislators, they protest and march for their rights.

But there is a silent discrimination, one that passes inadvertently but that affect millions of people in every country. That is the age discrimination.

Days ago I was looking some ads offering work, and I realized that there was a limit specifically established: 40 years old.

In other words, it is like publicly saying: if a person wants to work but is older than 40 years, he or she is not able any longer to perform any remunerated activity, no matter his or her capability, intelligence, will to work, background or experience.

In very crude terms, this means to condemn a woman or a man 47 or 52 years old to a very difficult, sad and poor life. This is to make people feel that they have already exhausted their right to be living with dignity in the midst of society, that nobody else cares about them and that they are left to their own devices until they die.

This is a very inhuman and sad reality that should be tackled immediately and that justifiably has to develop in movements of protest, in public acts to create awareness, in petitions to legislators, and the triumph would be the day that a law is passed establishing that discrimination because of age is unacceptable for people looking to work.

A fair treatment of these people will look for their education, capabilities, experience, background, lifestyle, etc. to determine what kind of job they could efficiently accomplish.

I am definitely against the age discrimination because it is inhumane.
