UN HOMENAJE PÓSTUMO A MARÍA VERÓNICA ALFONSO

Fue una mañana de 2005, cuando conocí a María Verónica Alfonso. Ella era empleada de Tradinco, la empresa editora de mi amigo Guillermo Artigas, en Montevideo, Uruguay.

Ella estaba a cargo de preparar el material de mi libro “OVNIs: La Agenda Secreta”, para que fuese impreso.

La base de dicho material, era lo que generosamente me había hecho llegar la Fundación Anomalía, que hiciese la primera publicación del libro en España.

Pero el libro que se publicaría en Uruguay contendría un Prólogo, escrito por el Astrofísico Dr. Massimo Teodorani, de Bolonia, Italia, con quien ya tenía desarrollada una proficua amistad.

Y también tendría un Anexo, fruto de la lectura, traducción al español y resumen del documento titulado “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in the U.K.”, un memorando científico-técnico que originalmente había circulado sólo a nivel de organismos de Inteligencia británicos, bajo el rótulo de SECRET- UK EYES ONLY – UK RESTRICTED”.

Por eso, mientras la versión original publicada en España tenía 398 páginas, la que se iba a publicar en Uruguay tendría 423.

María Verónica Alfonso trabajó horas, mientras estuve a su lado para responder a preguntas que le surgían mientras iba revisando el texto. ¿Cómo querría poner una foto?, ¿dónde usaría letra negrita?, ¿separaba cierta frase?... y múltiples detalles que ya no recuerdo. Pero ella estaba atenta a todo, y como excelente profesional en su especialidad no perdía un detalle.

Es pues a ella a quien debo en muy buena medida el libro tal cual luce en su edición uruguaya. A su dedicación y concentración. Y sobre todo a su experiencia y calidad en el manejo del material.

Poco después de trabajar con mi libro, viajó a Venezuela al encuentro de su amor. Allí la esperaba su hombre al que anhelaba ver.

Nos carteamos una vez por internet.

Luego, un silencio, y tiempo después, la infausta noticia: María Verónica había fallecido víctima de cáncer.

La noticia me impactó y entristeció mucho.

Se fue con todas las ansias de vivir con el ser del cual estaba enamorada, y la maldita enfermedad troncó para siempre sus sueños.

Fueron –es cierto— apenas unas horas las que compartí con ella mientras estaba concentrada en su tarea y de tanto en tanto me consultaba algo. Pero me impresionó la dedicación y la calidad de su atención a mi persona.

Muchas veces a lo largo de los años transcurridos desde entonces, me acordé de ella.

Y esta vez me dije que no podía postergar más mi homenaje póstumo a este valioso ser humano que en vida fue María Verónica Alfonso.

A POSTHUMOUS TRIBUTE TO MARÍA VERÓNICA ALFONSO

It was a morning in 2005 when I met María Verónica Alfonso. She was an employee of Tradinco, the publishing company of my friend Guillermo Artigas, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

She was in charge of preparing the material for my book "UFOs: The Secret Agenda", to be printed.

The base of this material was what the Anomaly Foundation had generously given me, which did the first publication of the book in Spain.

But the book that would be published in Uruguay would contain a Prologue, written by the Astrophysicist Dr. Massimo Teodorani, from Bologna, Italy, with whom I had already developed a proficient friendship.

And it would also have an Annex, the result of reading, translating into Spanish and summary the document entitled "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in the UK", a scientific-technical memorandum that had originally circulated only at the level of British intelligence agencies, under the heading of SECRET- UK EYES ONLY - UK RESTRICTED ".

For that reason, while the original version published in Spain had 398 pages, the one that was going to be published in Uruguay would have 423.

María Verónica Alfonso worked hours, while I was at her side to answer questions that came up while she was reviewing the text. How would you like to put a photo? Where would you use bold type?  Would you separate a certain phrase? ... and multiple details that I no longer remember. But she was attentive to everything, and as an excellent professional in her specialty she did not lose a detail.

It is therefore to her that in great measure I owe the book as it appears in its Uruguayan edition; to her dedication and concentration, and above all to her experience and quality in the handling of the material.

Shortly after working with my book, she traveled to Venezuela to meet her love. There her man awaited her whom he longed to see.

We wrote once online.

Then, a silence, and sometime later, the unfortunate news: María Verónica had died a victim of cancer.

The news shocked me and saddened me a lot.

She went away with all the desire to live with the being she was in love with, and the damn disease forever truncated her dreams.

Truly there were just a few hours that I shared with her while she was focused on her task and from time to time consulted me about something.

But I was impressed by the dedication and quality of his attention to me.

Many times over the years since then, I remembered her.

And this time I told myself that I could not postpone my posthumous tribute to this valuable human being who in life was María Verónica Alfonso.
