Anyone who has been lucky to live a romance knows very
well that it entails illusion, reality, hope, tenderness, love, and that
peculiar feeling that you are like floating in the air.
Romance is an extraordinary experience, full of beautiful
feelings, plenty of the sensation that you have a reason to be living, and that
your life has got an excellent turn.
Romance is exquisite. That is why it is full of
unforgettable moments that seem really incredible but they are true.
There are two lovers for whom life is what they are
experiencing and all the rest of the world is nearly inexistent.
In a certain way, romance is like living in a parallel
universe. It is a universe of two.
Nevertheless, it results very interestingly to go to the
definitions of romance.
To our surprise (yours and mine) romance is defined like
this:
“A feeling of excitement and mystery
associated with love." Maybe the mystery is associated with the fact
as to how the romance has emerged. And the excitement is a direct consequence
that it is not fiction, it is something real and it is happening to us. And of
course, the key word is “love”. Without love, romance is impossible.
“Love, especially when sentimental or
idealized.” Certainly, romance implies to be living a very sentimental
mood, and in that mood, we can come to idealize not only the other person but
our very relation.
“A love affair, especially one that
is not very serious or long-lasting.” This is a particular kind of “romance”
I don't feel very comfortable with because it talks about an affair, and
usually, that word implies not only something that will last briefly but also
something that is violating certain rules. An affair is not serious at all, and
therefore it won't be long-lasting. I wouldn't call it romance but just a
sexual adventure.
I think that what starts to be a romance could lead to a
permanent relationship as partners or as a married couple. That would be the
most successful and happy follow up of a romance.
But also the romance could end in failure, separation,
drama, sadness, pain for both members of the couple or for one of them, whoever
she or he is, the one who really was deeply in love with the other.
Your personal experience will tell you what kind of
romance are you living or have you lived.
